Tendulkar's major admission about why he suggested MS Dhoni as India captain: "Rahul was captain, but I would ask Dhoni...

The legendary Indian batsman has made a significant admission on why he suggested MS Dhoni for the position of Indian captain in 2007.

One of the greatest captains in the history of the sport, Mahendra Singh Dhoni, is highly recognised. The former India wicketkeeper-batsman, who captained the team from 2007 to 2017, is the only one to have won an ICC trophy in every type of match. In addition to leading India to the first T20 World Cup victory in 2007, Dhoni also won the ICC Test Mace. Under MS Dhoni's leadership, India won the ODI World Cup in 2011 at home.

When the board contacted him to take over as captain in place of Rahul Dravid, Sachin Tendulkar suggested Dhoni. Tendulkar explained why he persuaded the BCCI to appoint a relatively young MS Dhoni as the captain of the team; the wicketkeeper-batter was only 26 at the time. The event was hosted by Infosys.

"I was offered the captaincy in England at this time. I informed them that the team has a very capable junior leader who they should pay close attention to. I've talked to him a lot, mostly on the field where I would be fielding at first slip, and I've always asked him, "What do you think?" Even though Rahul was the captain, Tendulkar recalled, "I would ask him, and the answers I got were really calm, balanced, and mature.
