Top 7 Foodie Vacation Spots to Visit in 2023

95 main tourist locations were evaluated for gastronomic excellence, taking into account ingredients, regional variations, and the quality of national drinks, but there are seven standouts you should save for 2023.

In keeping with its annual tradition, TasteAtlas has released the World's Best Cuisine list.

7. Turkiye
Turkyie (previously Turkey) is a nation on the Eurasian continent with a millennia-long history. The country has adopted a cross-national Mediterranean culture and food, as it has strong links to Greece and has existed under multiple distinct empires, from the early Hellenic kingdoms through the Ancient Romans to the Ottomans.
The best-rated Turkish foods, according to TasteAtlas, are Kaymak, a creamy dairy product similar to clotted cream but thicker, traditionally made from water buffalo, sheep, or goat milk, Sujuk, a spicy, fermented sausage popular not only in Turkyie, but throughout the Balkan Peninsula, and Ca kebab, a horizontally-roasted lamb kebab.

6. Mexico
Mexico is America's undisputed favourite, not only as an upscale winter sun getaway - though the popularity of Cancun cannot be overstated - but as a cultural destination with a distinct menu drawing on ancient Mesoamerican cuisine, rich in maize, beans, and hot peppers, and later, other Spanish and pan-European influences.
When visiting Mexico as a foodie, don't miss out on the world-famous Oaxaca cheese, a white semi-hard cheese from the state's name, Cajetas de Celaya, a type of dulce de leche made from sweetened, caramelised goat milk, and, of course, all the well-known Mexican classics: corn tortillas (chilaquiles), ranch eggs (huevos rancheros), and tacos.

5. India
Indian food has a 4.54 star rating on TasteAtlas, making it one of the highest-ranking Asian cuisines. Cumin, Garam masala, a combination of ground spices added to meals for taste and colour, Ghee butter, and tamarind are some of the most popular and distinguishing ingredients found across the area.

It is worth mentioning that India has at least 28 administrative areas and countless more provincial divisions with various ethnic makeup, each with its own set of customs and cooking habits. Indian dishes are seldom a homogenous lot, which is what makes the nation so appealing to culinary connoisseurs.

4. Japan
Japanese food, traditionally centred on rice and fish and eaten raw as sushi or sashimi or grilled, has spread well beyond Japan's own national borders thanks to its expat community (and their descendants), becoming as internationalised as pizza or burritos. In fact, Japanese is one of the top 15 most popular takeout cuisines in America.

This may lead people to feel that they don't need to go halfway across the world to experience Japanese culinary culture, but this couldn't be farther from the reality. From Kyoto's famed Sushi Rakumi to Sapporo's award-winning Miyakawa, TasteAtlas includes over 1200 local eateries with great culinary options that are worth the lengthy trek from the United States.

3. Spain
Spain is a tried-and-true European gourmet destination, ranking third on TasteAtlas. It is the original home of paella, churros, patatas bravas, and a broad variety of Mediterranean seafood cuisines, spanning much of the Iberian Peninsula, which it shares with neighbouring Portugal and sections of France.
If you're looking for some truly memorable gastronomic experiences, don't miss Casa Bigote in the historical pueblo of Sanlucar de Barrameda, Del Oso, a Michelin-starred restaurant near Cantabria in Northern Spain, Barcelona's trendy Bar La Plata, and Anaco in Santiago de Compostela, capital of Galicia.

2. Greece
Greek cuisine may be traced back to Ancient Greece and Byzantium, but it has also integrated components from various cultures, most notably Turkish, Italian, and South Slavic. Whether in Athens, the Balkan mainland, or one of the numerous idyllic Aegean islands, locally obtained goods continue to be fundamental components in many dishes:
Wheat, olive oil, vegetables, cereals, fish, and meat, with pig, chicken, beef, and lamb being the most often utilised. Greece is set to gain from the present rise in travel demand - and a rekindled interest in the Hellenic World - as the runner-up on the 2018 TasteAtlas list, and having reopened for tourists with no health-related entrance criteria whatsoever.

1. Italy
Italy is the top holiday location for foodies in 2023, with a 4.72-star rating, higher than any other place examined. From arancini to zabaglione, you'll find all of your culinary favourites from A to Z, as well as a slew of world-class restaurants, like Trattoria Trippa in Milan and Amerigo dal 1934 in Savigno, to name a few.

Italy is likewise anxious to promote Americans to lesser-known areas, such as Friuli Venezia Giulia, where chefs have specialised in duck ragù with pappardelle. Other amazing off-the-beaten-path locations with delicious food include hilly Abruzzo and Adriatic Apulia.
