Los Cabos Is Mexico's Safest Destination in 2023

Los Cabos has become the safest tourist destination in Mexico as crime rates continue to fall and a robust police presence discourages criminals from operating in the region.
Historically a favourite beach resort for West Coast Americans, Los Cabos has grown dramatically as an all-encompassing international centre since the Riviera Maya's overpopulation and exorbitant pricing began to pushtou

Proving that travel advisories and media outrage do not necessarily represent the reality on the ground, which can be quite the contrary,

The Mexican Pacific's crown gem is smashing all kinds of records, but most importantly, it is ensuring the safety of its visitors: According to Daniel de la Rosa Anaya, State Attorney General of Justice of Baja California Sur (BCS), the state in which Los Cabos is situated, crime rates in all categories have dropped dramatically since 2018. The frequency of deliberate killings and car thefts, two of Mexico's most regular events, are down 95% and 74%, respectively.
Furthermore, the rates of burglary and street theft (pickpocketing and violent robbery) decreased by 63% and 52%, respectively, indicating that Cabo's streets could not be better policed than they are now. Unfortunately, this cannot be stated for other prominent Latin American towns. Indeed, the US Department of State has designated Los Cabos as one of the least-risky holiday destinations in Mexico, classifying it as a Level 2 destination. There are no increased safety concerns or travel warnings for American travellers. Nonetheless, they are cautioned to take 'heightened vigilance'.
This includes keeping an eye out for thieves in busy situations and being alert of fraudsters. The chances of getting physically assaulted or even finding oneself in a life-or-death scenario are extremely minimal, if not non-existent, especially now that 150 new police officers have been trained to keep incidents to a minimum throughout the Christmas season. In addition, 300 security cameras in tourist areas and over 25,000 street lights will be installed by 2023. Walking late at night on poorly lighted streets remains a big concern for American visitors visiting Mexico, as does petty crime, and local authorities appear to be addressing these issues by enhancing surveillance.
Los Cabos has surpassed Cancun as Mexico's most popular beach destination, with 22% more visitors than the previous record year of 2019, while the Mexican Caribbean hub has expanded by a far more modest 9%. Americans like Cabo, and the general sense of security they feel when vacationing there is only part of the reason.
