Gavaskar wants Rohit to drop Bharat, picks discarded star as keeper in WTC final

Sunil Gavaskar, the legendary Indian cricketer, feels KL Rahul should be selected as the keeper-batter for the World T20 final between India and Australia at The Oval just because of his batting talents.

On the fifth day of the fourth Test between India and Australia in Ahmedabad, New Zealand defeated Sri Lanka in a last-ball thriller in Christchurch. The outcome had a far-reaching influence. That eliminated Sri Lanka from contention and guaranteed India a place in the World Test Championship final, regardless of the outcome in Ahmedabad. After the last Test finished in a tie, India won the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2-1. It didn't take long for the emphasis and debate to move to the World Tennis Championship final, which will be played on June 7 at the Oval in England against Australia. How would India prepare for the WTC final with two months of IPL between? What will the team's personality be like?

The absence of India's key players, Jasprit Bumrah and Rishabh Pant, will be one of their major concerns. Both have been out with injuries for a long time, and there is no indication that they will be able to return to cricket anytime soon. Bumrah's absence during the Border-Gavaskar Trophy didn't hurt as much since the spinners did the most of the bowling, but filling his hole in English conditions would be challenging.

Sunil Gavaskar, the legendary Indian cricketer, feels KL Rahul should be regarded as a keeper-batter for the WTC final only on the basis of his batting talents.

"KL Rahul may be a wicketkeeper. If he bats at No.5 or No.6 in the WTC final at the Oval, our batting will be stronger. Because he performed admirably in England last year. At Lord's, he hit a century. Keep KL Rahul in mind when you select your team for the WTC final "Gavaskar stated to Sports Tak.
